Oil Based Skin Care Routine

Happy Sunday everyone!

If you are a lover of beauty products like myself, you cannot forget how important it is to take care of your skin! You only get one body during a lifetime, and it’s very important to take care of it, including the skin!

I have had dry skin ever since I was a little girl. I remember I would scratch myself so much to the point of scabs forming. My mom even had to give me lots of oatmeal baths because my itching was a huge problem. Now, this could have been something more than a dry skin issue, but as I grew older I learned the importance of moisturizing my skin. That included my face. I use to have dry patches quite often, or even flakes of skin showing through my foundation. This was a HUGE insecurity of mine, and I knew I needed to resolve the problem right away. Soon enough I discovered the wonderful effects of oils.

Oils are usually related to shininess, acne, and problematic skin. But using oils in your daily routine can make a huge difference. I would definitely classify my skin as normal – dry skin, so oils do wonders for me. But even if your skin type is combination or oily, definitely give these oil treatments a try. Here are 4 easy access products that you can use in your daily routine to have healthy glowing skin!

1. Argan oil

I love argan oil. It’s the first type of skincare oil I was introduced to and I swear by it. I got my bottle of Nature Republic’s Argan Oil during my trip from Korea. One of the greatest things about oils, besides its amazing effects, is that it lasts forever. I got this bottle in March, and 5 months later, it’s still more than half full. I use my argan oil as a night cream. Right before I go to bed, I take 3-4 small drops of oil in my hand, warm it in up by rubbing my palms together, and start to massage the oil onto my face. The oil starts sinking into the skin within a few minutes. When you wake up the next day, you’ll have cheeks as soft as a baby’s bottom! A good alternative is the Josie Maran line of oils.

2. cleansing oil

Like most people, I use to always take my make up off with a make up wipe. I never really enjoyed this method, as I was always tugging on my skin to get the last traces of make up off and my skin felt so stripped afterwards. And then I discovered cleansing oil. All you have to do is take 2 pumps of oil on your dry hands, rub your palms together, and start rubbing the oil on your dry face. Your face and eye make up will start to dissolve within a few seconds. Splash your face with warm water and you’re done! If you’re new to cleansing oils, I highly recommend the Garnier Clean + Nourishing Cleansing Oil. This is a fantastic oil that melts all my make up away, even waterproof mascara, and leaves my skin moisturized. You can find it at any drug store for $5 – $8, maybe even less with a coupon. I’m currently using the Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Rich Oil, which feels much lighter and smoother on my skin. Taking my make up off has never been so easy and quick. It literally takes me less than 2 minutes to go from a face full of make up to clean, bare skin.

3. baby oil

I actually learned this trick from Niomi Smart. If you hate lotion like me, you might like this oil alternative. But again, maybe you won’t since most people do not like the oily feeling after applying lotion. Baby oil is so affordable though, and again, it’s a great oil to moisturize your skin with! After you shower, rub some of the baby oil across your arms, legs and shoulders. I highly recommend using the baby oil after a night time shower. The oil will take some time to fully absorb into your skin, and what better way then while you’re sleeping. You’ll wake up with velvet smooth skin.

4. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is a super versatile oil. Of course it’s a healthier alternative to use when cooking, but it’s also a miracle worker for your beauty regimen. You could use the oil for your skin, but it does wonders for your hair! Although this isn’t part of your “skin care routine”, using coconut oil as a hair mask once a week will keep your hair well conditioned and silky soft. Before a shower, melt some coconut oil and apply it towards middle and ends of your hair. You want to avoid your roots since most of your natural oils are in this area already. Tie your hair up in a low bun, and leave the oil in for 20 – 25 minutes. After time is up, hop in the shower and wash the oil away. You’ll be left with beautifully soft hair that smells super lovely.

I hope these tips were of some use to you! Again, if you’ve never tried using oils before in your skincare/hair care routine, I highly recommend it! Until next time!
